KIRSTIE CLEMENTS

TO COINSIDE WITH VOGUES ONLINE SHOPPING NIGHT, WHICH WENT OFF WITH A BANG ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT, I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE A QUICK CHAT WITH VOGUE AUSTRALIA'S EDITOR-IN-CHIEF KIRSTIE CLEMENTS. IN MY FIRST EVER INTERVIEW FOR THIS IS MY WONDERLAND I SPOKE TO KIRSTIE ABOUT STYLE AND WHAT IT'S LIKE WORKING AT AUSTRALIA'S PREMIER FASHION MAGAZINE...

DESCRIBE A TYPICAL DAY IN THE VOGUE OFFICE?

Meetings between all of the staff sorting out what needs to be done. We're always on deadline! Arranging shoots, unpacking clothes and accessories, model castings, bookings. Some of the girls will be out on appointments choosing the fashion. Calling in clothes from overseas. Making mood boards for shoots. Writing, interviews with designers by phone, art dept preparing layouts, sub editing, signing layouts, it's all happening at once!

WHAT IS THE BEST FASHION ADVICE YOU EVER RECEIVED?

Buy less, just buy the most expensive things you can afford. One good bag is worth 100 cheap ones. And don't save things for "special occasions".
Every day is a special occasion- wear it now!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PIECE IN YOUR WARDROBE AND WHY?

A pair of really well cut black pants that make you look taller and slimmer. And my ACNE cashmere men’s sweaters.

WHAT ARE YOU WEARING TODAY?

The pants above! They are by Donna Karan. A cream cashmere ACNE sweater. A grey fur vest from Scanlon & Theodore. Salvatore Ferragamo flat silver slippers with a black bow. And some blue earrings I bought last weekend at Surry Hills markets.

HOW DO YOU DEFINE GOOD STYLE?

When you look expensive, not cheap. When you know your style, and your body shape, and you are not just slavishly following a trend. For example, if the 80's is in, leave me out for a season. But walk me over to the forties inspired collections every time.

NOW CAN SOMEONE SHAKE ME SO I CAN WAKE UP, BECAUSE I THINK IM STILL DREAMING
